Allardt is in northeastern Tennessee, near the Kentucky state line and just off scenic Highway 127. This small town has one of the most beautiful landscapes of the area. A few miles south of Allardt is Cumberland Mountain State Park, one of Tennessee's oldest parks. This park has won several awards, and has swimming, paddle boats, hiking, biking, camping, and rustic cabins with screened in porches and fireplaces. Heading north from Allardt is the Big South Fork National River and Recreational Area, with over 125,000 acres of rugged cliffs and rocky gorge that surround a fork of the Cumberland River as it flows down from Kentucky. Here you'll find miles of hiking and backpacking trails, unrestricted backcountry camping, challenging white water rafting, canoeing, fishing and horseback riding. All of this amid some of the most spectacular scenic views in the state! Allardt is also home to the annual Great Pumpkin Festival and Weighoff, usually held the first week in October. Besides the pumpkin weighoff, this colorful festival has a pumpkin cook-off; children's costume contest, games and free entertainment, fireworks, pumpkin bake sale and more! Also, while in Allardt, you'll want to visit the nearby historic town of Rugby. This charming, restored Victorian village was founded in 1880 by British author, Thomas Hughes. With twenty of the original buildings on site, it is both a living community and a fascinating historical site, with guided tours, special events and workshops for visitors.

Allardt Weather & Climate

Northeastern Tennessee has four distinct seasons with cold winters and hot summers. Spring and autumn can be varied and unpredictable with thunderstorms and strong winds. The general patterns of weather, however, are most affected by topography; the higher mountain regions tend to have milder summers and colder, more blustery winters. The mountainous eastern region is one of the wettest parts of the state. Most of the precipitation occurs in winter and early spring due to more frequent passage of large-scale, frontal storm systems over the region. A secondary maximum of precipitation occurs in midsummer with lots of shower and thunderstorm activity. Due to the relatively mild winter conditions, snow cover rarely stays on for more than a few days. Severe storms are relatively infrequent in the state.
