Boone-Lake
, named for the famous frontiersman, Daniel Boone, is located in northeastern Tennessee near Johnson City and Jonesboro. The exact location of Boone Reservoir Dam is at mile marker 18.6 on the south fork of the Holston River. Boone Lake is 32 miles long, a Tennessee Valley Authority lake with 130 miles of shoreline and many lake activities such as boating, fishing and swimming. Pedal boats and pontoon boats, even houseboats, are available for rent at some of the marinas located around the lake. A couple of the marinas also have on-site restaurants. The city of Jonesboro, Tennessee's oldest settlement, is just twelve miles away and offers antique shops, cafes and restaurants and specialty stores. Free concerts are given in Jonesboro's colorful downtown area every Friday night from May through September. Jonesboro is also called "The storytelling capital of the world," and has hosted an annual National Storytelling Festival for over 30 years. Other attractions near Boone Lake include the Cherokee National Forest, part of the Appalachian Trail, rafting on the Nolichucky River, and the Bristol Motor Speedway. Boone Lake, in the heart of the beautiful Appalachian Mountains of northeast Tennessee, is a place of great natural beauty and cultural heritage.

The climate of the northeastern Tennessee mountains is temperate with moderately cold winters and warm, humid summers. Precipitation is fairly well distributed throughout the year; as there is no distinct wet or dry seasons. October has the least rainfall, July the most. Snowfall is quite variable from year to year, and some winters have relatively little. Thunderstorms occur anytime of the year, but are most frequent in spring and summer. Summer temperatures are rarely extreme, but the high humidity often makes it seem hotter than it actually is. Snow is minimal in Tennessee except in the higher mountain regions. Severe storms are infrequent in the state, being east of the center of tornado activity, south of most blizzard conditions, and too far inland to be affected by hurricanes.
