Dandridge
is a small town of approximately 1,900, located in Jefferson County, of which it is the county seat. It is the 2nd oldest town in Tennessee, founded in 1793, and the only one in the country named after Martha Dandridge Washington, wife of President George Washington. Located in the heart of the East Tennessee foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains, Dandridge is near two beautiful lakes, the Douglas and Cherokee Lakes. Both offer great fishing, boating, swimming, camping, wildlife viewing and just relaxing by the water's edge enjoying a picnic and the incredible views. Four golf courses are located in Jefferson County near the town of Dandridge. History buffs will love a walk through this picturesque town. Be sure to visit the Historical Museum at the Jefferson County Courthouse. It displays artifacts and relics from the Civil War and World Wars, plus has on display a Marriage Bond of famed frontiersman, Davy Crockett and his wife, Polly Finley. The courthouse was built in 1845 and is one of the oldest in the country that is still in use today. Dandridge is just minutes to the city of Knoxville, and near other popular southeast Tennessee attractions such as Dollywood, Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge, and some of the best outlet shopping in the southeast.

The eastern portion of Tennessee maintains a mild climate with four seasons. Summers are generally warm and humid. The Great Smoky Mountains dominates the eastern border of the state, with numerous peaks rising 4,000-6,000 above sea level. Extreme warm temperatures are rare in summer, but at times the high humidity levels makes it seem warmer than it is. Temperatures always range 10 - 20 degrees cooler in the higher elevations. Fall is crisp and cool and the driest season of the year. Winters are mild and wet in Tennessee, and the mountainous eastern border of the state is the wettest part, with annual totals of up to 80 inches in the higher, well-exposed peaks. Snowfall averages around 12 inches and tends to not stay on the ground for long. Rain is common in the summer months, but can occur anytime of the year.
