Jefferson-City
is located in the mountains of eastern Tennessee, just twenty miles east of Knoxville and near the North Carolina border. Jefferson City is a small town surrounded by beautiful rolling hills, picturesque farms and pastureland. And, Jefferson City, as well as the other towns of Jefferson County offers several tourist attractions, lodging choices and restaurants for visitors to enjoy. The main attraction is beautiful Cherokee Lake. As you approach the lake on Highway 25 E, you will come to a lookout point that gives you an impressive view of Cherokee Lake. Formed by the Holston River and its tributaries, Cherokee Lake has over 30,000 acres of water surface and over 450 miles of shoreline. It is one of the largest lakes in the state of Tennessee and is excellent for fishing. There is no closed season for fishing, although the best times run from April through October. You'll find several boat docks around Cherokee Lake, as well as boat and canoe rentals. And, several parks are in the vicinity with hiking trails, swimming and other water sports, picnicking and camping. Jefferson City is also just a short drive to Knoxville, Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge and the Great Smoky Mountains National Park.

The eastern portion of Tennessee maintains a mild climate with four seasons. Summers are generally warm and humid. The Great Smoky Mountains dominates the eastern border of the state, with numerous peaks rising 4,000-6,000 above sea level. Extreme warm temperatures are rare in summer, but at times the high humidity levels makes it seem warmer than it is. Temperatures always range 10 - 20 degrees cooler in the higher elevations. Fall is crisp and cool and the driest season of the year. Winters are mild and wet in Tennessee, and the mountainous eastern border of the state is the wettest part, with annual totals of up to 80 inches in the higher, well-exposed peaks. Snowfall averages around 12 inches and tends to not stay on the ground for long. Rain is common in the summer months, but can occur anytime of the year.
