Waverly
is a small town located in Humphreys County (of which it's the county seat,) in central Tennessee, about 55 miles west of Nashville, near the Kentucky Reservoir. The county's motto is "Back to Nature in Humphreys County," and also "The Land of Three Rivers." Outdoor recreation abounds here in the way of year-round fishing, swimming, canoeing, pleasure boating, camping, horseback riding and hiking. Visitors can enjoy a close-up, undisturbed look at nature and the wildlife of the area at the Blue Creek Nature Center in Waverly, and the Tennessee National Wildlife Refuge in nearby Johnsonville. The Humphreys County Museum & Civil War Fort in located in the village of Waverly and history buffs will also enjoy a day trip to the Johnsonville Historic Area. There are also several Indian mounds located in the region. Loretta Lynn's Ranch and Family Campgrounds is just a short drive, and has become Tennessee's seventh largest attraction. Guided tours are given of the country singer's 14-room plantation home, which is nestled on her 3,500-acre ranch, and her 18,000 square foot "Coal Miner's Daughter Museum." The town of Waverly comes alive with music each year during the annual Dulcimer Festival, and many other festivals and special events, including a Civil War Reenactment, takes place in the small towns and villages surrounding Waverly throughout the year.

Central Tennessee has a moderate four-season climate with warm, humid summers and mild, wet winters. Rainfall is distributed fairly evenly throughout the year, and thunderstorms are common in spring and summer. The higher elevations of the Smokies, Blue Ridge and Appalachian Mountains are generally cooler in the summer and colder, more blustery in the wintertime. Fall tends to be the dry season, due to the higher frequency of slow-moving high-pressure systems. Average annual snowfall ranges from 4-6 inches in the south and west to over 10 inches in the east. Due to the mild winter conditions over most of the state, snow cover rarely lasts for more than a few days. Severe storms, such as tornadoes, are infrequent in Tennessee, and when they do occur, it's usually west of the Cumberland Plateau.
